As a big fan of Ed Zitron’s Where’s Your Ed At newsletter, I started listening to this podcast when it premiered last year but, maybe it’s appropriate that I’m posting about it at a time when the tech industry deserves to have even more anger hurled its way. At this moment, it’s especially cathartic to hear that you’re not imagining what he calls the “rot economy”, products getting worse (thanks Prabhakar Raghavan), bubbles preparing to pop (thanks OpenAI), and a general malaise engulfing the industry. It’s also a good time to jump in because both the end of year and CES episodes are great listens.

I've really been enjoying listening to people who know way more than I do separating what's real from what's just hype when it comes to AI. Instead of being dry, a lot of the topics they cover are pretty comical in their ridiculousness.

My only complaint: I think hosts Emily M. Bender and Alex Hanna have NPR-style soothing voices and sometimes find myself lulled into missing a point and forced to rewind.

I usually avoid tech podcasts; Tech Won't Save Us is the main exception. It takes an honest, critical view of the industry, so if your gut reaction to hearing about LLMs or FSD or NFTs is extreme skepticism, you're in for a real treat.

I love this podcast. My only complaint is that it’s newish and I sped through every episode and now I want more.

As someone who spent years working in bookstores and libraries, biting my tongue while selling and lending so many terrible, terrible books, these takedowns are extremely validating.

The Wall Street Journal is pretty bad most of the time and their op-ed page is embarrassing for everyone involved but the Facebook Files podcast is fantastic. Whatever you may have suspected Facebook of getting up to, the reality is almost always so much worse.

I just finished the book Catch and Kill and would highly recommend reading it  but if you’re looking for podcast-sized chunks for work or your commute, give this a listen. 

Warning! It is maddening and a lot of the bad guys still have high-level media jobs and are shaping news narratives right now.

More of what I’m listening to while I work. Worst Episode Ever is a podcast dedicated to finding the worst post-classic episode of the Simpsons.

This podcast is really at it’s best when it’s totally off the rails with Dalek impressions and original characters but I’m linking to a relatively focused example because I think Moe’s talking rag might actually be the worst episode.
